More Than 54363 Persons displaced By Flood in Bayelsa, Rivers

National Emergency Management Agency on Sunday said it had registered 54363 Internally
Displaced Persons in camps in Bayelsa and Rivers states.
NEMA said in a statement that it registered 35,126 IDPs in six affected local government areas
of Bayelsa State, while 19, 237 IDPs have been documented in four affected local government
areas in Rivers State as at Sunday.

The statement issued by NEMA spokesman, Yushau Shuaibu, said the agency was also
encouraging registered Non-Governmental Organisations, volunteers and community leaders to
support in the management of the established camps.

NEMA South-South Zonal Coordinator, Umesi Emenike, was quoted as saying that NEMA
may continue to establish more camps in the two states, where necessary, to accommodate
the influx of people from their houses as the volume of water continues to rise in some of the
communities. “NEMA has continued to provide relief materials to all the camps, especially food
items, drugs, beddings, clothing and toiletries based on rapid response assessment needs,” added.
